The Musicians of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra proudly present the second annual Our Hearts Beat for Birmingham concert series!

This musician-led series began last year to support some of the extraordinary non-profit organizations in Birmingham and we are incredibly excited to continue what we hope will become a Birmingham tradition. This year we would like to draw your attention to two note-worthy organizations here in our community – One Place and Scrollworks.

One Place Metro Alabama Family Justice Center dedicates itself to removing barriers that all too often prevent people from reporting interpersonal violence. The YWCA Central Alabama, Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, City of Birmingham-Birmingham Police Department, Hispanic Coalition of Alabama, and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office work together under one roof to provide coordinated services to victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. This allows access to a multi-disciplinary team of professionals to help people navigate support services across Birmingham.

Scrollworks Music School is a member of Carnegie’s PlayUSA network and strives to develop character and a sense of community by making music instruction and ensemble playing available to all children. Partnering with the VSA/Kennedy Center, it provides music instruction to students with disabilities through group lessons and ensemble participation led by a staff of accomplished musicians. Housed at St. Paul UMC, they serve young people ages 6-18 of diverse social, racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds, allowing them the opportunity to explore and cultivate their musical talent.

The Musicians of the ASO hope you will join us for two free performances on September 17th and 18th. All donations will go directly to One Place and Scrollworks. Come and meet the amazing people behind these two fine organizations, and help us support the exemplary work being done in our community. We hope to see you there!
