Where are you from originally?

Born in Orlando, FL, lived in Columbia, SC for my elementary school years, and Tallahassee, FL during middle and high school.

How many years in the symphony?

4 years.

Hobbies?

I started running when I moved to Birmingham in 2017, and I fell in love with it quickly because of all of the beautiful places to run around town. I enjoy trail running in particular, because of the physical challenge and the nature aspect. I am definitely not the fastest runner, but I enjoy training for both road and trail races.

Favorite spots around town?

TrimTab Brewing Co., Seeds Coffee, and Hero Doughnuts. I also love running or hiking with my wife Hillary and my dog Roxie at Red Mountain Park!

How has being a member of the ASO connected you to our community?

One of my favorite parts of playing in the ASO is connecting with our patrons at concerts. My seat is right at the edge of the stage, so I end up meeting someone new after every performance. There are a few patrons who have become friends that I catch up with each week. I also enjoy sharing my love of music with students through our education concerts, the INSPIRE program, and coaching ASYO sectionals.

Musical hero?

Melanie Punter, my bass teacher in middle school, high school, and undergrad (a total of 9 years!). I learned so much in lessons with her, as well as performing with her in the Tallahassee Symphony. She constantly pushed me to be better and always encouraged me when I failed. She is still a close friend and mentor, and I owe any success I ever have to her.
